Order of Mata Nui Assassin - Toa of Spirit

Backstory

Konpaku originates from a small unnamed island north of Metru Nui that was completely isolated and foreign to the majority of the Matoran Universe. This island was inhabited by a village of Toa and Matoran known as the Lotus Clan.

The island was discovered by the Order of Mata Nui while searching for locations to seal away artifacts gathered from the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna. The clan made a deal to conceal the Sword of Destruction, Lævateinn, on the island in exchange for the Order's protection

At some point, the Matoran Konpaku began to hear voices inside his head. At first, he thought he was going crazy, but he soon realized that the voices where giving him helpful advice. Konpaku soon became known for this ability, and used it to benefit his village several times.

One day, the Lotus Clan heard stories of a monstrous creature known as Flandrex terrorizing nearby islands. Konpaku became curious and sought out the creature with help from the voices. To his surprise, he found Flandrex, who was on the island seeking the Sword of Destruction.

Flandrex spotted Konpaku, and used the artifact to topple a tree over, killing him. Shortly after, Flandrex was apprehended by the Toa Artakha, and was imprisoned in the remains of the Hand of Artakha's headquarters. Konpaku's body was recovered and returned to his village, where the villagers expected it to be teleported to the Red Star.

Unbeknownst to Konpaku, the Great Being Yukore split Konpaku's spirit into two halves, and sent one half back to his body, reviving him as a half-Matoran, half-spirit.

The Lotus Clan were shocked to find Konpaku alive, but welcomed him back as a miracle from the Great Spirit. However, Konpaku no longer heard any voices. Ashamed by his sudden lack of usefulness, he became a loner, choosing to live in solitude on the outskirts of the village.

Over many years, the Lotus Clan began to grow superstitious of Konpaku, as Matoran who got too close to him sometimes ended up getting ill, or dropping dead. Eventually, their fear of Konpaku reached a boiling point, and he was forced to flee the village for his life. He was soon intercepted by an Order of Mata Nui Spy who had been watching him ever since word of his abilities reached the Order. The spy brought him to Daxia, where he was transformed into a Toa.

The Toa transformation boosted the power of Konpaku's spirit, rendering it visible. It resembled a glowing white orb, and Konpaku soon realized he was in control of it. The Order explained Konpaku’s situation, and offered him a place among their ranks.

Konpaku was angered by the realization of what he’d become, as it had been the cause of his expulsion from his village. He vowed to take revenge on whoever did this to him, and the Order made a promise to assist him in that effort if he’d agree to join. Naturally, Konpaku agreed, and was placed in the Assassin Division of the Order. There, he quickly rose in the ranks until becoming the Top Assassin in the division.

Later, he would be dethroned by Knoxus, a newcomer to the order, causing a heated rivalry between the two assassins.

Abilities & Tools

Konpaku was meant to be a Toa of Air, but the split in his spirit keeps him from being able to control the element. As a half-Toa, half-spirit, he can manipulate his own spirit energy into powerful attacks. His spirit half is completely intangible and has the ability to possess soulless bodies. It can also directly attack the spirits of living beings.

HIs spirit half can also visually transform into an identical duplicate of his Toa half, and he can swap physical locations with his spirit half as a form of teleportation. He can also see from his spirit half’s perspective, like a second set of eyes.

Like all other members of the Order of Mata Nui, Konpaku's mind is shielded from mental attack.

Konpaku possesses two swords, one of which is a short sword he uses for dueling and dual wielding. His other sword is just a hilt, which he can posses with his spirit half to generate a blade in the shape of a katana. This ghost-blade can phase through its target’s body to directly attack their spirit. He can also launch the blade from the hilt as a powerful projectile attack.

Konpaku wears a Kanohi Kakama, the Great Mask of Speed, which he painted with traditional markings of the Lotus Clan.

After joining the Order of Mata Nui, Konpaku gained a Kanohi Huna, the Great Mask of Concealment, which is standard issue for the Order's Assassins.

Personality

As a Matoran, Konpaku was usually quiet and docile, but after his spirit was split in two, his demeanor quickly changed. He's now more egotistical and competitive. However, he takes his job seriously, even when it means working together with his rivals. He has the skills to back up his ego as well. He possesses extreme focus, but sometimes tends to overreact in contentious situations.

Although being an assassin violates the Toa Code, the split in his spirit removes some of the burden of killing. This allows Konpaku to be one of the most merciless warriors in the Order.
