Knoxus was created along with thousands of other Matoran by the Great Beings to populate the planet of Luna Magna. However, the Mining War broke out over the planet, which almost every Matoran participated in.

The war ended after the Kingdom of Luna Magna was established. Due to how common Fe-Matoran where among the population, Knoxus was chosen as one of many hundreds of Matoran to become a miner. Soon, organized mining efforts began in a centralized area, and the Great Mine of Luna Magna was started.

Knoxus worked diligently as a miner for many years, making friends with Matoro, a fellow Matoran Miner, along the way.

Knoxus went on to witness the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna - an incident where a dimensional rift opened in the sky and pulled the planet into the Prime Universe. Shortly after this event, a rogue Makuta appeared on Luna Magna, who tried to kill Knoxus, but he was soon rescued by Chilluno. Mata Nui noticed the Makuta on Luna Magna and decided to rescue Knoxus and Matoro. However, knowing that the Luna Magnans would never allow him near the planet again, he decided to take the two Matoran for study instead.

Knoxus' memories were wiped, his armor was changed and his body was rebuilt, and he was eventually placed among a caravan of Fe-Matoran weapon traders during the Time Slip. He remained with this caravan for many years, until a strategic coordinated strike from the Brotherhood of Makuta wiped out the colony of Fe-Matoran. Knoxus was the sole survivor of this attack. He boarded a trading ship owned by Muras, and traveled along with her to the Southern Continent.

Just before reaching the Southern Continent, the Great Cataclysm occurred, which sunk the ship and everyone with it. Knoxus was sucked into a whirlpool which transported him to Karda Nui. He lived with the Av-Matoran in Karda Nui for 1,000 years, until the Brotherhood of Makuta appeared again to terrorize the Av-Matoran settlements.

A week later, Knoxus was ambushed by Makuta Vamprah, and bitten by a Shadow Leech. As he plummeted to the Swamp of Secrets, Toa Mahri Matoro sacrificed himself to revive the Great Spirit, which generated a flash of light powerful enough to blind the Makuta, and weaken the Shadow Leeches infecting Knoxus.

Knoxus landed in the mutagenic waters of the Swamp of Secrets, shortly followed by Matoro's Kanohi Tryna. Knoxus donned the mask, and the leftover energies from the Mask of Life mixed with the mutagenic properties of the swamp water transformed Knoxus into a Toa. The infection process was halted, but as a result of transforming into a Toa while infected, Knoxus is now permanently half infected by Shadow.

Due to his unique elemental abilities, Knoxus was invited to join the Order of Mata Nui's Assassin Division by Jerbraz. There, he was trained by Tobduk and quickly rose in the ranks during the Order's war against the Brotherhood. Knoxus would eventually be promoted to Top Assassin, dethroning Konpaku.

While working for the Order, Knoxus eventually wound up back on Luna Magna, when he was sent to recover the Luna Dial. Later, he would receive assistance from Leimera, the Princess of Luna Magna, and be super-charged with moonlight energy using a machine she developed, a process which suppressed Knoxus' shadow infection and unlocked his moonlight abilities, allowing him to reach his maximum potential as a Toa of Iron and Moonlight.

Abilities & Tools

As a Toa of Iron, Knoxus can control and absorb any type of metal. His shadow infection, however, reduces his elemental power, so he is not able to create metal.

Knoxus' infected side also has limited Shadow Elemental Powers. With just his left side, he can create, control, and absorb Shadow energy, but any usage of his infected side causes it to grow stronger, risking possible spreading of his infection. His infected side also shares the same weaknesses as a Shadow Toa or Makuta, being especially vulnerable to the element of Light.

If he is supercharged with moonlight energy, Knoxus will enter his 'Knight of Nights' form. In this form, Knoxus' shadow infection is suppressed, granting full control over his Iron Elemental Powers, allowing him to create any type of metal. This form also unlocks his inherent Moonlight Elemental Powers, allowing him to create, control, and absorb Moonlight elemental energy.

His Knight of Nights form is only temporary, however. Eventually, his shadow infection will drain the Moonlight energy from his body, causing him to revert back to his standard, infected form.

Like all other members of the Order of Mata Nui, Knoxus' mind is shielded from mental attack.

Knoxus carried various tools and weapons during his time as a Matoran, including a pickaxe, sickle, and Nynrah Ghost Blaster.

Knoxus would later come into possession of the Luna Dial. This artifact is capable of stopping, slowing down, and speeding up time for whoever is touching or wearing it, but only when it's powered by Moonlight energy. The artifact can wirelessly draw energy from the planet Luna Magna, but needs line of sight to do so. In Knoxus' Knight of Nights form, he can power the Luna Dial himself.

Knoxus also possesses a sword and dagger. His sword's edge is lined with protodites, which separate any material the sword is cutting down to a molecular level, allowing it to cut through almost anything.

Knoxus also uses his elemental powers to generate smaller weapons, including a hand-mounted hook, blade, and his signature throwing knives.

Knoxus wears gauntlets of his own design on either arm, which have the capability of folding outwards. These gauntlets can be used as miniature shields. When fully extended, the gauntlets function as jet boosters, granting Knoxus the ability to fly.

Knoxus was later given a tattered cloak by Raxus, which he used to conceal his shadow infection for a time.

As a Matoran, Knoxus wore a Kanohi Pakari, the Great Mask of Strength. This mask was lost in the swamps of Karda Nui before he transformed into a Toa.

As a Toa, Knoxus wears a Kanohi Tryna, the Great Mask of Reanimation. This mask previously belonged to Toa Mahri Matoro.

After joining the Order of Mata Nui, Knoxus gained a Kanohi Huna, the Great Mask of Concealment, which is standard issue for the Order's Assassins. 

Personality

Even after having his memories wiped as a Matoran, Knoxus kept his personality. He's a hard worker, who's not too motivated. He's also somewhat shy, and doesn't have many friends, but he is still loyal and trustworthy to his allies.

After being infected and transforming into a Toa, Knoxus felt self-conscious of his shadow infection, and typically prefers not to use it if possible. When he was given the offer to join the Order of Mata Nui, Knoxus agreed on the condition that they’d try to help him be rid of the infection and take revenge of the Brotherhood of Makuta, which the Order agreed to.

As an Order of Mata Nui Assassin, Knoxus' work violates the Toa Code, which would normally put a heavy burden upon his spirit. Knoxus’ shadow infection lightens the burden of killing on his spirit, but it also increases the shadow infection's hold over him.
