Mars was created as a Toa by the Great Beings, not long after Helryx. This was before the standards of the Matoran Species were decided upon by the Great Beings, and therefore he is classified as an Ancient Toa.

Mars was deemed defective by the Great Beings, and he was sent to one of the southernmost islands of the Matoran Universe, alone. He lived on this island for most of his life, until the Dark Hunters discovered him and forcibly recruited him into the organization.

Mars was trained to master his elemental powers while in the Dark Hunters, and for a while, he was content to work for them. Many years later, however, Mars grew weary of the Dark Hunter lifestyle, and planned to escape. However, no Dark Hunter had ever successfully left the organization unscathed, so he bided his time, waiting for the perfect moment to make a move.

Eventually, The Shadowed One learned of an artifact of power called the 'Master Spark' hidden on a remote island. The artifact was rumored to amplify any energy sent through it tenfold. Mars and his partner, Malice, were tasked with retrieving the artifact, and bringing it to The Shadowed One.

Mars and Malice set off and successfully recovered the artifact, but at the last minute, Mars betrayed Malice, leaving her stranded on the remote island. Mars returned to Odina with the artifact, but The Shadowed One was not shocked to find Mars alone, as this was typical Dark Hunter behavior.

Just before Mars had to give up the Master Spark, he used it to decimate a large portion of the Dark Hunter fortress, and escaped with the artifact on a stolen ship in the commotion.

Mars returned to his island, where he proceeded to train with the Master Spark for many years, growing stronger each day. During the time spent on this island, Mars' armor color changed from blue & white to black & white due to age and wear.

Ancient, a double agent for the Order of Mata Nui within the Dark Hunters, reported Mars' escape to the Order, suggesting they recruit the disillusioned Dark Hunter. The Order scouted the Southern Islands until they found Mars, and presented an offer to join the Order.

After much thought, Mars accepted, believing an organization dedicated to serving Mata Nui would provide him a better lifestyle. He went on to join the Intelligence Division of the Order, and eventually rose to become the Top Spy in the division.

Abilities & Tools

As a Toa of Lightning, Mars can create, control, and absorb lightning and Lightning Elemental energy. As an Ancient Toa, he is one of the strongest and most experienced Toa of Lightning ever created.

Like all other members of the Order of Mata Nui, Mars' mind is shielded from mental attack.

Mars possesses the Master Spark, a legendary artifact which was originally hidden away by the Order of Mata Nui after the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna transported it into this universe. It has the ability to amplify any energy put through it tenfold. For example, it can turn a spark into a lightning bolt, and a lightning bolt into a massive laser.

Mars carries a staff that he built himself while working for the Dark Hunters. It allows him to focus his lightning powers. After joining the Order of Mata Nui, Solunus modified Mars' staff, giving it the ability to levitate. Mars can use this ability to fly by holding or riding atop the staff. 

Mars can mount the Master Spark on the end of his staff to increase its effectiveness, or to provide a speed boost when flying.

Mars wears a Kanohi Volitak, the Great Mask of Stealth, which was reforged to change its appearance. He usually wears his signature wide brimmed hat atop his mask.

Personality

Mars is typically sassy and cool-headed. He known for his humorous quips, but can also be serious when required. Oftentimes, he speaks bluntly, which sometimes bothers other members of the Order. Mars is also ridiculously cocky, and prefers to complete his missions using his strength over his stealth, which works in his favor more often than it should.

Having worked as a Dark Hunter and Order of Mata Nui member his entire life, Mars' actions have often been in violation of the Toa Code. Mars keeps the guilt from his actions buried deep down, but it continues to weigh on his spirit heavily.
