The Shadowed One is from an inhospitable icy realm in the Matoran Universe. With the assistance of Ancient, a fellow being from his homeland, he founded the Dark Hunters, a group of mercenaries for hire.

While traveling with Ancient to recruit for the organization, they came across the island of Odina, and decided to use it as a base of operations. Once established, the Dark Hunters rapidly rose in power as they recruited many dangerous and unsavory beings from the Matoran Universe. One such being was a tech-savvy Vortixx who would be codenamed 'Malice.'

The Dark Hunters would later discover an Ancient Toa of Lightning named Mars living in the Southern Islands, and forcibly recruited him into the organization. He was partnered with Malice, and they completed many assignments together.

The Shadowed One later learned of an artifact of power called the 'Master Spark' hidden on a remote island. The artifact was rumored to amplify any energy sent through it tenfold. Mars and Malice were tasked with retrieving the artifact, and bringing it to The Shadowed One.

Mars and Malice successfully recovered the artifact, but at the last minute, Mars betrayed Malice, leaving her stranded on the remote island. Mars returned to Odina with the artifact, but The Shadowed One was not shocked to find him alone, as this was typical Dark Hunter behavior.

Just before Mars gave up the Master Spark, he used it to decimate a large portion of the Dark Hunter fortress, and escaped with the artifact on a stolen ship in the commotion. The Shadowed One would later scrub any record of Mars' existence from the Dark Hunter records, to avoid inspiring other deserters. Malice eventually returned to Odina, and The Shadowed One punished her for her failures.

The Shadowed One would later attempt to conquer Metru Nui in the name of the Dark Hunters. However, after several conflicts, the Dark Hunters were driven out of the city by a force of nearly 100 Toa. Both sides suffered heavy casualties, and this event came to be known as the Toa-Dark Hunter War.

Eventually, Makuta Teridax would hire the Dark Hunters Nidhiki, Krekka, and Eliminator to do an assignment for the Brotherhood of Makuta in Metru Nui. When Nidhiki and Krekka did not return from this assignment, The Shadowed One investigated, and discovered that Teridax had killed and betrayed them.

After surviving a battle with Teridax and Toa Vakama alongside fellow Dark Hunters Sentrakh and Voporak, The Shadowed One declared a millennium-long war against the Brotherhood of Makuta.

For many years, The Shadowed One led the Dark Hunters on various missions, including stealing the Staff of Artakha, and sending the Piraka to recover Teridax's Kanohi Kraahkan from Mangaia. The Toa Nuva would eventually recover the Staff of Artakha from Odina, destroying the Dark Hunter fortress in the process.

Later, a mysterious organization would contact The Shadowed One to hire a Dark Hunter for a suicide mission against the Brotherhood of Makuta. The Shadowed One would send Lariska on this assignment. Eventually, the mysterious organization revealed itself to be the Order of Mata Nui. Ancient would convince The Shadowed One to ally with the Order in their war against the Brotherhood.

The Order directed The Shadowed One to attack and destroy the weapons factories on the Island of Xia, but instead he decided he would rather completely destroy the island. He gathered his forces and left with a fleet of ships, however, Helryx appeared, and threatened to destroy the fleet if The Shadowed One did not follow her orders. The Shadowed One then decided to occupy Xia as a new base of operations for the Dark Hunters.

After successfully conquering Xia, The Shadowed One recovered a vial of Makuta Viruses, which he planned to put to use. Ancient objected to this idea, and The Shadowed One killed him in response. He later allied with the Barraki, and they planned to take over the Matoran Universe once the Brotherhood was defeated. 

Shortly after, a virus broke out on Xia, killing many Vortixx. Though the Dark Hunters remained active, The Shadowed One disappeared, and he is presumed to still be at large.

Abilities & Tools

The Shadowed One has formidable strength and talent as an assassin, and can also fire disintegration beams from his eyes. 

He possesses a powerful tool called the Staff of Protodermis which can create solid, crystalline Protodermis. The staff also has a built in Rhotuka Launcher. His Rhotuka can induce temporary madness within targets.

Personality

The Shadowed One is a very charismatic leader, but also arrogant and sadistic. He is also a very proud being, and refuses to let his honor be slandered by his enemies. He enjoys pairing foes or very different Dark Hunters together, both for character building and his personal amusement. Often he will resort to lies and foul play to ensure various agents remain in his organization. He has also, over the course of his tenure as leader of the Dark Hunters, dealt effectively with numerous threats to his rule.
