Leader of the Order of Mata Nui - Ancient Toa of Water

Backstory

Helryx was the first Toa created by the Great Beings. She was brought into being as a Toa before the standards of the Matoran Species were decided upon, and therefore she is classified as an Ancient Toa. Her power level far exceeds that of an average Toa of Water. She helped in the construction of Metru Nui and the training of the Toa Mata.

Not long after her creation, she joined the Hand of Artakha, where she started her own Toa team, the Toa Artakha. When the Hand of Artakha disbanded, Helryx founded the Order of Mata Nui. She invited the Toa Artakha and many members of the Hand of Artakha to join the Order. With the exception of herself and the other Toa Artakha, Helryx forbade Toa and Matoran from being recruited into the Order.

After founding the Order of Mata Nui, Helryx rebuilt herself to be more heavily armored, and gave herself a pair of wing-like fins.

The Order of Mata Nui went on to discover a single unique Matoran of a new element they dubbed 'Peace'. This Matoran of Peace, Nomi, was recruited into the Order and began training with Helryx. She was later transformed into a Toa and added to the Toa Artakha.

Years later, Helryx and the Toa Artakha came to Mata Nui's aid during the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna, an incident started by Karzahni that caused a dimensional rift to be opened in space, which pulled the planet Luna Magna and thousands of powerful artifacts into the Prime Universe. Helryx assisted in collecting and hiding the many artifacts displaced by the incident. Unfortunately, Nomi died during the incident after releasing a Nova Blast.

During the incident, Helryx was struck by a blast from an alternate-universe Spear of Fusion carried by the Vezon and Fenrakk from that universe. This separated the light and shadow aspects of Helryx's spirit into two separate beings - Helryx and Xyrleh. Helryx rescued the sickly Xyrleh after the incident, unaware of her true nature, and began nursing her back to health.

After regaining her strength, Xyrleh attacked and killed Khafu, which led Helryx to abandon her in the wild. Xyrleh survived thanks to the life energy absorbed from Khafu, and went on to terrorize the Matoran Universe and become the feared 'Scarlet Devil,' Flandrex.

Eventually, the threat of Flandrex grew too great, and the Toa Artakha went to capture her. They succeeded, and Flandrex was imprisoned in the remnants of the Hand of Artakha headquarters. She remained there for years, until needing to be transported to the newly constructed Order of Mata Nui headquarters on Daxia. Flandrex managed to escape during transport, and Helryx sent a massive force to recapture her in response.

The resulting battle led to catastrophic losses for the Order of Mata Nui. Flandrex was successfully recaptured, but the Order was so weakened by the battle that Helryx was forced to begin recruiting Toa and Matoran to rapidly restore the Order's strength.

Years later, two more members of the Toa Artakha, Glace and Shelok, were killed in a Brotherhood of Makuta ambush trying to reverse the Mutiny of Makuta Miserix against Helryx's orders. This led Helryx to reorganize the Order into specialized divisions, which she placed in the command of the remaining members of her Toa team, Ayhax and Regron. Later, the Assassin Division was also formed, which Tobduk was placed in command of after his skilled assassination of all beings who were aware of the location of the Island of Artakha.

Helryx continued to lead the Order for many years, where she went on to write an atlas of the Matoran Universe, and assisted the Toa Nuva and Takanuva on their quests.

After a successful mission to recover the Infinium Orb from the Brotherhood of Makuta headquarters on Destral, Helryx began preparing for war with the Brotherhood. She sent word to her agents scattered around the Matoran Universe that the Order was coming out of hiding, and successfully managed to convince the Dark Hunters, the Skakdi of Zakaz, and the Barraki to ally with the Order.

After the battle for the Island of Nynrah, Helryx, along with Keetongu, encountered the Energized Protodermis Entity, which tried to kill them. They narrowly escaped thanks to a portal unwittingly opened by Vezon. The portal led them to the Core Processor where they met Axonn, Brutaka, Miserix, and the Toa Hagah. Brutaka revealed they were within the mind of Mata Nui, and Makuta Teridax revealed he was already inside.

Teridax teleported Axonn, Brutaka, and Keetongu out of the Core Processor, trapped Miserix in an illusion, and hypnotized the Toa Hagah, who then left. Helryx was then trapped within the Core Processor as Teridax's prisoner.

After being trapped for months, Helryx decided to destroy the Core Processor with a Nova Blast to put an end to Teridax's reign, at the cost of the entire Matoran Universe. Suddenly, Tren Krom (In Lewa's Body), Tuyet, Hafu, and Kapura arrived in the core processor, followed by Axonn and Brutaka. Tren Krom freed Miserix from Teridax's illusion, and the group split up into separate sides. Miserix and Axonn sided with Helryx, and Brutaka, Tuyet, and Tren Krom fought against them to prevent the destruction of the Matoran Universe, until Artakha arrived to break up the fighting. Teridax then teleported all the beings into space.

The group was rescued from space by Vezon, and they found themselves in an abandoned fortress on the moon of Bota Magna. There they discovered Tomidas, an imprisoned Great Being who was cursed by the Mask of Life, and debated whether to free him. At one point, Helryx got too close to Tomidas, and her armor came to life and began strangling her. Lewa, Hafu and Kapura later left the fortress.

While in the fortress, Mata Nui managed to defeat Teridax and reunite Spherus Magna, transforming the moon of Bota Magna into the forest of Bota Magna. Unbeknownst to the beings within the fortress, another Great Being, Velika, was rigging the fortress to explode, intending to wipe out many of the most powerful beings from the Matoran Universe.

Velika's explosives went off, killing Axonn and Brutaka. Tomidas survived, but remained imprisoned, and Helryx was rescued by Artakha, who revealed himself to be a Great Being in disguise. Miserix, Tuyet, and Vezon's fates are currently unknown.

Helryx returned to Daxia, which had teleported to the ocean of Aqua Magna on Spherus Magna, and led the Order of Mata Nui in the further development of the planet.

Later, Helryx gained similar elemental abilities to Flandrex, which led to a shift in personality. Her armor color also began to change to red.

Abilities & Tools

As a Toa of Water, Helryx can create, control, and absorb Water, as well as channel healing energy. Being the first Toa ever created, she is the strongest and most experienced Toa of Water, and is powerful enough to create a raging tsunami from her internal elemental energy reserves.

Helryx has a pair of wing-like fins on her back that greatly improve her swimming ability. They also grant her the ability to fly or glide short distances.

In her Crimson Wave form, Helryx gained the Element of Destruction – a new elemental ability, which is the same element Flandrex controls. It allows her to expand and compress matter at will. While she's not too experienced in this ability, she has learned how to force objects to implode, and to fire expanded particle blasts.

Like all other members of the Order of Mata Nui, Helryx's mind is shielded from mental attack.

Helryx carries her signature spiked mace and shield. Both tools are hydrodynamic, allowing her to easily use them in combination with her elemental powers, as well as underwater. After transforming into her Crimson Wave form, Helryx replaced her shield with one of a heavier style.

Helryx wears a Kanohi Gungnir, the Great Mask of Psychometry.

Personality

Helryx has the personality of a natural born leader. She is usually calm and fair but can be strict and commanding when necessary. Part of her strengths as a leader stem from the fact that the shadow in her spirit was separated from her, granting her near perfect moral judgement when making decisions.

Later in her life, Helryx began developing powers similar to Flandrex's, which greatly altered Helryx's personality.

Trivia

Helryx's theme is 'Septette for the Dead Princess,' which originates from the Touhou Project series as the theme for Remilia Scarlet. Helryx's fins and some aspects of her Crimson Wave form are directly inspired by Remilia.

Helryx's Mask of Psychometry was designed by Mister-N and modeled by Galva.
