Great Being of Nature

Backstory

Long before the 'Prime' Universe was created, the Great Beings wandered the cosmic void aimlessly. Eventually, they discovered each other, which led them to realize the extent of their powers. In order to express themselves, they attempted to create unique bodies for themselves, but discovered that the void would rapidly destroy their creations in a process called Entropy.

After eons of experimentation, they discovered they could open pocket universes in the dimensions of space-time below them, and proceeded to create the multiverse, an exponentially expanding series of interwoven dimensions and timelines. Once inside the multiverse, the Great Beings could create to their hearts content. Three Great Beings volunteered to stay in the void in order to anchor and conceal the multiverse from destruction. Out of respect for these Great Beings, they where called Great Sages.

Crasevous accompanied a group of Great Beings to the planet of Spherus Magna, to start a testing ground for their experiments. To their surprise, they encountered a native living entity, Annona, inhabiting the planet. Annona tried to feed on the dreams of the Great Beings, but found their minds too strange to do so. The Great Beings drove Annona deep underground by trying to feed on her dreams in response.

The Great Beings then created a civilization of sapient beings in their own image. This civilization was made up of the Glatorian and the Agori, who split into eight known tribes based on the elements found on the planet. The Great Beings then integrated themselves with the Spherus Magnans, and went on to become their scientist-kings. The Spherus Magnans then gave them the name 'Great Beings.'

Crasevous was fascinated by the world of Spherus Magna and its population, and began researching the natural phenomena of the planet, as well as the nature of the population itself. He would continue to observe these processes, focusing mainly on the minds of sapient beings and how they worked and developed.

Led by Angonce, the 'Great Spirit Project' was started, in which he intended to create a pair of automatons to explore and gather data from the universe and automatically return it to him. With the help of the Spherus Magnans, they constructed a prototype version of these robots. However, its power source was unstable, and the prototype exploded, scattering pieces of itself across the desert of Bara Magna.

Because of this failure, the Great Beings doubled down on their experiments, instead delegating leadership of the tribes to seven newly created Element Lords. The Element Lords would soon discover Energized Protodermis leaking from the core of the planet. Seeing this as a more viable power source, the Great Beings started construction of the first robot, which Angonce would name Mata Nui. The tribes also began fighting over the Energized Protodermis, which would lead to the start of the Core War.

In an attempt to end the Core War, Heremus and Crasevous created the robotic Baterra to target and kill any armed combatants in the war. The Baterra were highly effective in combat, but they failed to end the conflict. The Baterra also constructed the Valley of the Maze around the Great Beings' central fortress of operations. Angonce later ordered Heremus to shut down the Baterra. Unbeknownst to him, however, Heremus left them active, claiming that they malfunctioned.

Once enough construction was complete on the robot, the beings Tren Krom, Artakha, and Karzahni were created and given purpose within the robot. After that, the Great Beings created a new species of bio-mechanical beings inspired by the Glatorian and Agori called Matoran, whose purpose was to maintain Mata Nui from within. After much debate, the Great Beings decided not to make the Matoran sapient, in order to prevent situations like the Core War from happening within Mata Nui. Crasevous was opposed to this decision, believing the Matoran could be valuable to his research if they were made sapient.

With all preparations completed, Mata Nui was readied for launch. However, the Core War caused a chain reaction within the planet's core that split Spherus Magna into three pieces, the forest moon of Bota Magna, the ocean moon of Aqua Magna, and the desert planet of Bara Magna. Because of this, the Great Spirit Project had to be abandoned while only half completed.

Disappointed by the actions of their civilization, the majority of the Great Beings left Spherus Magna. Rather than leave, Crasevous met with Heremus, and they devised a plan to make the population of the Matoran Universe sapient, so upon Mata Nui's return to Spherus Magna, the pair of Great Beings could rule the Spherus Magnans uncontested. Crasevous announced to the other Great Beings that he was going into exile, so his disappearance would not be suspicious.

Crasevous entered the Matoran Universe to execute the plan while Heremus hid in the Black Spike Mountains, to await Crasevous' and Mata Nui's return. When Crasevous entered the Matoran Universe, he replaced a Po-Matoran named Velika, so that his presence would remain undetected. He kept his true name a secret, but over time, he took on the personality of Velika, and began using the name as if it was his own.

As he planned, Velika altered the spirits of the Matoran Universe's inhabitants to make them sapient, then proceeded to observe their development while playing his part as a Po-Matoran. While within the Matoran Universe, various agents on Spherus Magna loyal to Velika would report happenings on the planet to him. These agents were Kabrua, Perditus, and Atakus.

For many millennia, Velika stayed concealed. He was at one point sent to Karzahni for repairs, but was instead rebuilt into a weaker form. Karzahni gave him a pair of Power Carvers to compensate for this, and sent him to the village of Voya Nui on the Southern Continent, to keep his failures hidden.

Velika would later witness the Great Cataclysm, which separated Voya Nui from the Southern Continent and launched it out of the Matoran Universe. Many years later, Velika would join the Voya Nui Resistance Team, to assist the Toa Nuva and Toa Inika against the Piraka, and would be guided to safety by Axonn when the Southern Continent was repaired.

Eventually, Mata Nui managed to defeat Makuta Teridax and reunite Spherus Magna. Velika left the Matoran Universe along with all of its inhabitants, and began setting his plans in motion on Spherus Magna. In order to ensure his rule would not be opposed, Velika sought to kill the most powerful beings from the Matoran Universe before returning to Heremus. He ambushed and killed Tren Krom and Karzahni, and framed the latter's murder on Toa Lesovikk.

Later, Velika saw an opportunity to eliminate Artakha, Helryx, Axonn, Brutaka, Makuta Miserix, Tuyet, and Vezon in one fell swoop. He discovered them in the abandoned fortress that acted as Tomidas' prison, where they were debating whether to free him.

Unbeknownst to the beings within, Velika rigged the fortress to explode, killing Axonn, and Brutaka. Tomidas survived, but remained imprisoned, and Helryx was rescued by Artakha, who revealed himself to be a Great Being in disguise. Miserix, Tuyet, and Vezon's fates are currently unknown.

Abilities & Tools

As a Great Being, Velika is from a higher plain of reality, and is able to manipulate the universe around him. This allows him to create and destroy matter, energy, and spirits, but only from within the multiverse. He is unable to die, or be killed.

As a study, Velika observed the natural phenomena of the multiverse, including the minds of sapient beings. He refers to himself as the 'Great Being of Nature.'

When Velika's power is combined with that of another Great Being, they gain the ability to imprison a Great Being within an orb of space-time, which can only be undone if two or more Great Beings combine their power again.

While in the Matoran Universe, Velika wielded a pair of Power Carvers given to him by Karzahni, which he used to make tools and weapons.

Velika also created a dagger, which he used along with his powers to assassinate Tren Krom.

Kanohi, the Great Being of Emotion, created the Kanohi Komau based on Crasevous' appearance. The mask was given the power of Mind Control, based on Crasevous' research into the minds of sapient beings.

Personality

Like all Great Beings, Velika is highly intelligent when compared to most sapient beings, due to being from a higher plain of reality.

Velika was fascinated by natural phenomena, and extensively researched the minds of sapient beings.

While in the Matoran Universe, Velika had a habit of speaking in riddles. The insight he provided through his words helped many times in the liberation of Voya Nui, but fellow resistance member Kazi found the habit highly irritating. He also had a passion for creating and inventing, a trait which stemmed from being a Great Being.

Velika is somewhat of a psychopath, believing that the Great Beings' rule over Spherus Magna was too weak. Because of this, he wants to rule Spherus Magna, and is willing to kill beings of the Matoran Universe to make it happen. Velika believes himself to be smarter than those around him, and believes his actions are justified.

Trivia

Velika's theme is 'Native Faith,' which originates from the Touhou Project series as the theme for Suwako Moriya.
