Great Being of Virtue

Backstory

Long before the 'Prime' Universe was created, the Great Beings wandered the cosmic void aimlessly. Eventually, they discovered each other, which led them to realize the extent of their powers. In order to express themselves, they attempted to create unique bodies for themselves, but discovered that the void would rapidly destroy their creations in a process called Entropy.

After eons of experimentation, they discovered they could open pocket universes in the dimensions of space-time below them, and proceeded to create the multiverse, an exponentially expanding series of interwoven dimensions and timelines. Once inside the multiverse, the Great Beings could create to their hearts content. Three Great Beings volunteered to stay in the void in order to anchor and conceal the multiverse from destruction. Out of respect for these Great Beings, they where called Great Sages.

Angonce led a group of Great Beings to the planet of Spherus Magna, to start a testing ground for their experiments. To their surprise, they encountered a native living entity, Annona, inhabiting the planet. Annona tried to feed on the dreams of the Great Beings, but found their minds too strange to do so. The Great Beings drove Annona deep underground by trying to feed on her dreams in response.

The Great Beings then created a civilization of sapient beings in their own image. This civilization was made up of the Glatorian and the Agori, who split into eight known tribes based on the elements found on the planet. The Great Beings then integrated themselves with the Spherus Magnans, and went on to become their scientist-kings. The Spherus Magnans then gave them the name 'Great Beings.'

Led by Angonce, the Great Beings constructed a central fortress to act as their operating center. There they began to discuss the experiments they wished to conduct.

Angonce started the 'Great Spirit Project' in which he intended to create a pair of automatons to explore and gather data from the universe and automatically return it to him. With the help of the Spherus Magnans, they constructed a prototype version of these robots. However, its power source was unstable, and the prototype exploded, scattering pieces of itself across the desert of Bara Magna.

Because of this failure, the Great Beings doubled down on their experiments, instead delegating leadership of the tribes to seven newly created Element Lords. The Element Lords would soon discover Energized Protodermis leaking from the core of the planet. Seeing this as a more viable power source, the Great Beings started construction of the first robot, which Angonce would name Mata Nui. The tribes also began fighting over the Energized Protodermis, which would lead to the start of the Core War.

With the assistance of Yukore, Angonce created and programmed a powerful spirit to pilot the robot, and formulated the 'Three Virtues' as guiding principles for him to follow.

Once enough construction was complete on the robot, the beings Tren Krom, Artakha, and Karzahni were created and given purpose within the robot. After that, the Great Beings created a new species of bio-mechanical beings inspired by the Glatorian and Agori called Matoran, whose purpose was to maintain Mata Nui from within. After much debate, the Great Beings decided not to make the Matoran sapient, in order to prevent situations like the Core War from happening within Mata Nui. Angonce was in favor of this decision.

In an attempt to end the Core War, Heremus and Crasevous created the robotic Baterra to target and kill any armed combatants in the war. The Baterra were highly effective in combat, but they failed to end the conflict. The Baterra also constructed the Valley of the Maze around the Great Beings' central fortress of operations. Angonce later ordered Heremus to shut down the Baterra. Unbeknownst to him, however, Heremus left them active, claiming that they malfunctioned.

As a final failsafe for the project, Angonce had Kanohi create another legendary mask - the Kanohi Ignika - to revive Mata Nui if anything where to happen to him. Out of curiosity, Tomidas touched the Ignika and was cursed to bring anything he touched to life. This curse drove Tomidas insane, so Angonce and Kanohi imprisoned him within a space-time sphere, and bound it in chains in an abandoned fortress in the forest of Bota Magna. They then hid the Ignika in a chamber below Mt. Valmai in the Matoran Universe.

With all preparations completed, Mata Nui was readied for launch. However, the Core War caused a chain reaction within the planet's core that split Spherus Magna into three pieces, the forest moon of Bota Magna, the ocean moon of Aqua Magna, and the desert planet of Bara Magna. Because of this, the Great Spirit Project had to be abandoned while only half completed.

Disappointed by the actions of their civilization, the majority of Great Beings left Spherus Magna. In one last effort to resolve the situation, Angonce changed Mata Nui's purpose to be to reunite Spherus Magna, and set up an automated beacon in the Valley of the Maze to alert him if the planet was ever restored.

Before leaving Spherus Magna, Domarius informed Angonce that Crasevous seemed to have stowed away within the Matoran Universe. This puzzled Angonce, so he asked Domarius to pursue Crasevous to ensure he did not jeopardize Mata Nui's mission. Domarius and Angonce then went their separate ways.

Angonce and several of the Great Beings that left Spherus Magna moved on to an alternate universe version of the planet, Luna Magna, to continue their experiments. Angonce deferred leadership of the Luna Magna experiments to Kae-Oss.

Kae-Oss was convinced that the Matoran species was superior to the Agori and Glatorian, and suggested populating Luna Magna with them, only made sapient. In order to prevent a similar situation to the Core War, he would create the Luna Magnan Matoran with additional light in their spirit. While Angonce was opposed to this idea, the other Great Beings went through with Kae-Oss' experiment.

Just like with Spherus Magna, Luna Magna was populated, and the Great Beings began ruling the civilization of Matoran. However, war broke out on Luna Magna over the Moonlight Energy Crystals which could be found underground.

Seeing yet another failed experiment, the Great Beings turned against Kae-Oss, ridiculing him for repeating the mistakes of Spherus Magna. This drove Kae-Oss mad, and he threatened to destroy Luna Magna in his rage. The Great Beings imprisoned him in the core of the planet to protect the Luna Magnans, then left to continue their experiments elsewhere in the multiverse.

Angonce left Luna Magna to wander the multiverse alone, collecting various artifacts along the way.

Eventually, Angonce's beacon activated, and he returned to Spherus Magna to find Mata Nui's destiny had been completed. He downloaded Mata Nui's data into the Scroll of Knowledge, and discovered that the Matoran within Mata Nui had become sapient while he was gone. Curious, Angonce set out to observe the progress of the Spherus Magnans.

Abilities & Tools

As a Great Being, Angonce is from a higher plain of reality, and is able to manipulate the universe around him. This allows him to create and destroy matter, energy, and spirits, but only from within the multiverse. He is unable to die, or be killed.

As a study, Angonce is fascinated by the actions of spirits. He learned to create guiding principles that transcend space-time, and would present these 'Virtues' to civilizations around the multiverse in an attempt to influence them. He refers to himself as the 'Great Being of Virtue.'

When Angonce's power is combined with that of another Great Being, they gain the ability to imprison a Great Being within an orb of space-time, which can only be undone if two or more Great Beings combine their power again.

Angonce carries the Scroll of Knowledge, an artifact that can store an infinite amount of data. He records everything he learns within it, along with the results of eons of experiments.

Angonce also posses the powerful Sword of Virtues, an artifact which he imbued with the power to manipulate Virtue. With it, one could rewrite the moral code of an entire civilization.

Upon returning to the reunited Spherus Magna, Angonce discovered a duplicate Kanohi Ignika from an alternate universe, which was worn by the alternate-universe Vezon that attacked Helryx during the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna. Angonce recovered the mask, which had turned black from it's countdown ending, and sealed it in a protective barrier to prevent himself from getting cursed.

On his travels through the multiverse, Angonce came into possession of a motorcycle, which he uses to travel across different planets. As well as that, he began wearing a wide-brimmed hat atop his mask.

Kanohi, the Great Being of Emotion, created the Kanohi Artamu based on Angonce's appearance. The mask was given the power of Adaptation, based on how Angonce adapts virtues to civilizations.

Personality

Like all Great Beings, Angonce is highly intelligent when compared to most sapient beings, due to being from a higher plain of reality.

Angonce is mild-mannered and virtuous, and despite being a Great Being, he treats all living things as equals, even Rahi. Angonce likes collecting things, and has many trinkets from his travels across the multiverse.

Trivia

Angonce's character design is directly inspired by Byakuren Hijiri, a character from the Touhou Project series. Angonce also shares Byakuren's theme, 'Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind.'

The Kanohi Artamu was designed by Red Star Forge.
